Making the College Admission Process about You

Making the College Admission Process about You

Highschool me personally in Anything Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My title is Jessica Frey (informally known as J Frey) and I am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I was raised in Hollister, a farm that is tiny in Northern Ca that has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothing store. I attended a big public highschool with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theater. My hope is that through sharing my experiences that are own I can give you some advice and help you feel at ease when you approach the school admission process.

Many of you readers is going to be signing up to college before very long, and I also wish to make sure you know this might be planning to be all about you. It might feel a little weird and selfish for those of you who are constantly placing other’s needs before your very own. But in order for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where you belong and feel happy, you do need to produce the college search process exactly about yourself.

I don’t know I was in high school I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people were doing and thinking about you, but when. It is cool to put on red pants now? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I ended up being eyeing at the mall weekend that is last. All the other children in my class are using to College XYZ? Maybe I should too. My therapist claims I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus course? I wonder if i will affect engineering, even though I have NO IDEA what as an engineer is about. They certainly were all real ideas I’d as well as many others through that anxious shmoop write essay for me and fall that is stressful of senior year.

You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Listed below are three fundamental principles I believe every senior school student should retain in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many people form views about different universities and colleges, but you should really give attention to your very own thoughts of the schools plus the information you find as you research the universities that interest you. It is important that you are enthusiastic about a university because they provide something that you would like in your undergraduate experience- not merely because other folks you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation.

Reflect on that which you want in a college experience, and apply to schools accordingly. The time has come to help you think about just what a college campus should have in order for you to be a delighted and thriving student. Do you want to attend college in a large city or even a rural college town? Do you want to study abroad in a particular nation? What kind of activities do you want to pursue not in the classroom? Do you want to have the ability to operate closely with your professors? It has everything you’re looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you’ve never heard of but! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your school or family ever knew about the school prior to your breakthrough. Maybe it’s a place where you certainly will have a college experience that is enjoyable.

Benefit from the search process! The process of making your college list can be a daunting task, but it is also an experience that is enjoyable. This is your possiblity to learn as much as you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the nation. This is the time and energy to explore the array that is wide of and look closely at the colleges you are considering.

I really don’t compose this blog to tell you shouldn’t listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You may have resources that are wonderful your disposal that provide great advice and understanding. Counselors know about a number of colleges that can have the ability to tell you more about the ones that meet your criteria. Your parents is in a position to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You simply have in order to make sure their advice also aligns with that which you want in a college experience.

Having said that, we did buy and totally rocked the red pants. We’ll admit that I used to a college I had no intention of attending just to see if We could get in. I did get into the institution, but during the end of the that didn’t matter day. It don’t make me feel better about myself plus it was quite truthfully a waste of time and cash. But used to do follow my heart and became a theatre major instead of an engineer, and I also’m therefore happy I did. More on that later on.
